Shehr-e-Ramazan flooded with green flags as Geo celebrates 10 birthday

KARACHI: Shehr-e-Ramazan was completely inundated by colourful green flags at sehr and iftar on the occasion of Independence Day on Tuesday, which coincidentally also fell on the same day as Geo’s 10th birthday.

On the 25th day of Geo TV’s Pehchan Ramazan broadcast, national songs and na’ats echoed through the studio’s corridors, while scenes of unity and patriotism were splashed across the screens. Dr Abdul Qadeer was also welcomed on the occasion.

Espousing the values of faith, unity and discipline as advocated by Father of the Nation Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, eminent television personality Dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain formally inaugurated the day’s show, after which he welcomed individuals from different walks of life.

Owing to it being Independence Day, the attendance in the programme was greater than usual as a result of which there was constant activity and entertainment. Geo also celebrated its 10th birthday coinciding with Pakistan’s 66th Independence Day, and immediately after iftar double celebrations were observed in the presence of Dr Abdul Qadeer.

In addition to Geo President Imran Aslam and Vice President Dr Aamir Liaquat and senior members of the Geo TV Network were also present on the occasion. After cutting a cake to mark Geo’s birthday, President Imran Aslam observed that in order to popularise the “Geo aur jeenay do” catchphrase, the Geo team would continue to strive and work hard. Dr Aamir Liaquat, meanwhile, thanked all members of Geo TV Network and congratulated them on the auspicious occasion. To participate in the Independence Day celebrations, renowned scholar Haji Hanif Tayyeb was also present. The famous singing sisters Shabana Kausar and Shazia Kausar presented national songs in their melodic voices. Imran Sheikh Attari and Ahmed Raza Qadri also sang popular patriotic verses, igniting the spirit of unity and patriotism in the viewers. In the spirit of the show, Dr Aamir Liaquat also prayed for the health and well-being of acclaimed singer Jamiluddin Ali, in response to which the audience responded with a loud and emphatic Ameen. The spirit of Ramazan continued unabated as well, as the tradition of helping out the deserving and less fortunate also continued.

Zeeshan Qureshi who was rendered handicapped in a terror incident five years earlier participated in the show with his family.

Dr Aamir Liaquat, in collaboration with the Mehmooda Sultana Foundation, promised him financial assistance and also distributed envelopes of cash to the participants. Addressing the programme in the context of Independence Day, Dr Aamir Liaquat asserted that faith, unity and discipline were the three golden principles espoused by the Quaid-i-Azam, and added that a fourth principle — that of tolerance and patience — was also necessary to be elevated to the highest levels in the afterlife.
