SHC stops APNS implementing March resolution

Pakistan Press Foundation

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday directed the All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) not to take any coercive action against some members of the society on basis of its resolution passed during its annual general meeting on March 30, 2019.

The SHC judge, Arshad Hussain Khan, issued the order during the first hearing for a case filed by Arif Nizami (Pakistan Today), Zia Shahid (Khabrain), Ejazul Haq (Express), Jabbar Khattak (Awaami Awaz), Rafique Afghan (Ummat), Anwar Sajdi (Intekhab), Rehmad Ali Razi (Taaqat), Tahir Farooqi (Ittehad), Mumtaz Ahmed Sadiq (Azadi Swat) and Sadiq Baloch (Balochistan Express).

The petitioners challenged objectionable sections in the APNS constitutions with regard to membership and stated that a publication group had teamed up with some members of the APNS for the past many years to dominate the body, hurting interests of its members. The plaintiffs were represented by Tahmasp Rizvi Advocate.
