SHC Orders PTA to Recover Over Rs70 Billion from Telecom Companies with Long Distance International Licenses
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to recover more than Rs70 billion from telecom companies with Long Distance International (LDI) licenses.
The court’s order followed a detailed hearing about the non-payment of dues, with the PTA being instructed to initiate the recovery process immediately after hearing the companies’ responses.
In parallel, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has launched an investigation into the PTA’s handling of the recovery process. NAB has directed the PTA to submit a response by July 29, requesting detailed records on the outstanding amounts and related court cases. According to sources, the delay in recovering these dues has caused significant financial losses to the national exchequer.
Despite the LDI companies agreeing to pay the principal amount in full, the recovery process has faced delays due to court stay orders.
