Shazia Marri lauds role of media for democracy
KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Information Shazia Marri has said that media has played a vital role in the political history of Pakistan, and journalists through their pen have always continued their struggle for restoration of democracy. This she said at a meeting with Hameed Haroon, here on Saturday. She said the PPP has always supported press freedom and today media persons were supporting its government. While hailing the role of Print and Electronic Media for the cause of democracy, she said our journalists had paid a heavy price for upholding truth.
The information minister also attended a meeting of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS). APNS President Hameed Haroon and General Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kazi apprised the information minister about the problems being faced by society members. Taking notice of complaints, Shazia Marri said that Sindh government greatly values its ties with media. All the problems facing APNS would be resolved on priority basis, she assured. Marri said: “The PPP government has always been striving for the democracy and human rights and our leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto also stressed on freedom of press and incorporated the principle of press freedom in the party manifesto.”
