Shahid Soomro case sent to ATC

HYDERABAD- After Sindh Governor’s assurance that murder of journalist Shahid Soomro will not be allowed to be covered up and that heirs will receive justice, Kandhkot Police included Section 365-A Pakistan Panel Code (PPC) (kidnapping for ransom) in First Information Report (FIR) of murder case of and District Superintendent Police (DSP) Kandhkot submitted papers of the case in the Anti Terrorist Court (ATC), Sukkar on October 31, 2002 and secured five days remand of arrested accused for investigation.

Police had produced three arrested persons before court. They were Waheed Ali Bijarani and Muhammad Ali Bijarani, sons of powerful tribal chief of Bijarani tribe Sardar Sher Muhammad Bijarani and Siddiq Bajkani, the body guard of the sons of Sardar Bijarani.

Police have failed to arrest the remaining two accused shown unknown in the FIR but local people believe they are Chachars by caste. Police have also failed to recover the car and weapons used in the murder.

ATC Sukkar has given November 5 date for hearing of the case and directed Kandhkot police to submit final challan on that date.

Shahid Soomro was killed on October 20 evening by five armed persons on doorstep of his house on his residence of being kidnapped. He was made target of the revenge for writing true news and stories on election 2002 which infuriated the Bijarani Sardars contesting election from Jacobabad District.

Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani, a cousin of Sardar Sher Muhammad Bijarani and uncle of the killer brothers Waheed Ali and Muhammad Ali and himself former Federal Minister and feudal lord has won the seat of National Assembly (NA) from Jacobabad District.
