Shahbaz drops IT university decision
Lahore, Jan 10: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday announced withdrawing an earlier decision of his government to establish an information technology university at his 8-Club Road secretariat built by his predecessor, Pervaiz Elahi.
The announcement to turn the secretariat into an IT university was made soon after the formulation of the PML-N government which had accused Pervaiz Elahi of squandering public funds on its construction. The government could not implement the decision even after Shahbaz Sharif became the chief minister because of various reasons, mainly objections by the bureaucracy.
Officials said now the idea had finally been dropped on the recommendations of a committee set up by the chief minister under Chief Secretary Javed Mahmood to assess the viability of turning the secretariat into the university.
Now, the secretariat would be used by the chief minister’s staff and to hold important meetings with foreign dignitaries.
