Seven women, 12 children freed from police detention

SUKKUR, Sept 10: Seven women and 12 children, who were kept in illegal detention for the last two days, were recovered from women police station Sukkur on Wednesday.

M Sabhagi Mirani on Wednesday morning filed an application in the Sindh High Court bench, Sukkur, stating that heavy contingent of Sukkur police on Monday night raided the homes of Mirani community situated near Kirthar canal, ransacked the house of one Ali Gul Mirani and detained seven women and 12 children, who were kept in illegal detention at women police station, Sukkur.

The court appointed its accountant Jameel Ahmed Jummani as raid commissioner and ordered him to raid the women police station and recover illegal detainees. Following court’s order, the raid commissioner raided the police station and recovered seven women and 12 children, who were being kept in illegal detention for the last two days, without making any entry in the record.

Those recovered are Mst. Fatima Mirani, Sakina Mirani, Najma Mirani, Rukhsana Mirani and others. The raid commissioner ordered the in charge of women police station Syeda Zuhra Shah to appear before the court along with record on Thursday morning.

It may be mentioned here that following looting of gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.6 million from a goldsmith of Sadiq Abad on Monday last, heavy contingent of police had raided the houses of Mirani community near Kirthar canal and had detained women and children.
