Senior Journalist Bakht Ali Abbasi Passes Away at 38
Senior journalist and Karachi Press Club member Bakht Ali Abbasi passed away on December 2 at the age of 38. He succumbed to cardiac complications after a prolonged battle with heart disease. Despite his health challenges, he maintained an unwavering commitment to journalism, earning him immense respect among his peers.
Abbasi began his career in journalism with Sindh TV News, where he worked as a correspondent for three years. He later joined the English-language newspaper Pakistan Today, serving for four years and building his reputation as a skilled reporter. In February 2016, Abbasi transitioned to Daily Ausaf in Karachi, where he served as a correspondent until May 2018.
In April 2018, he joined Dunya News Group as a member of the Daily Dunya Karachi team as a court reporter. However, in September 2023, Abbasi, along with many colleagues, was laid off as part of a sweeping organizational decision by the news outlet.
After losing his job, Abbasi faced financial and emotional hardships. Determined to sustain himself, he ventured into a small business selling fries. However, his deteriorating health often hindered his efforts. Diagnosed with severe heart disease years earlier, Abbasi had undergone pacemaker implantation to manage his condition, but the illness persisted, demanding frequent hospital visits.
In 2021, Abbasi completed Pakistan Press Foundation’s Investigative Reporting Fellowship.
Karachi Press Club President Saeed Sarbazi and Secretary Shoaib Ahmed expressed their sorrow. They prayed for his soul’s eternal peace and strength for his grieving family.
