Senate body seeks early regularisation of PTV adhoc employees

ISLAMABAD (January 13 2009): Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting on Monday proposed that appropriate steps should be taken to regularise the employees of Pakistan Television recruited on adhoc and contractual basis.

The ommittee met under the Chairmanship of Senator Liaquat Ali Bangulzai expressed concern over the delay in implementation of its recommendations on different issues and sought reassurance from PTV administration to regularise services of its contractual employees at the earliest.

The meeting was held here to discuss issues of PTV, APP and External Publicity Wing of the Ministry, especially regularisation of adhoc/daily wages employees in PTV and the observance of regional quota of employment and matter relating to PTV finances. Senators Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal, Tariq Azim Khan, Muhammad Ali Durrani, Haji Muhammad Adeel, Syed Muhammad Hussain, Tahira Latif, Maulana Sami-ul-Haq, Nilofar Bakhtiar, Secretary Information and Broadcasting, Ashfaq Ahmed Gondal and senior PTV management were also present.

The committee noted with concern that a number of discrepancies have been found in the provincial/regional quota, which need to be rectified with a view to removing the sense of deprivation among the people especially those belonging to remote areas of the country. The committee which had expressed its reservations about the audit of the organisation was informed that a special audit of PTV was being conducted and its findings would be shared with the committee.
