Seminar on violence against women held
To commemorate the International Women’s Day, a non-government organisation, the Inter Global Human Development Society (IGHDS) on Thursday organised a seminar titled “Journey of decade through violence against women.” A large number of journalists, women, students as well as educationists attended the event.
The event started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Hira Rajput. Asima Mughal welcomed the audience and gave a brief introduction of Nargis Abro, a renowned journalist as well educationist, who is currently working as Social Development Research Consultant in IGHDS. In her welcome note, Asima highlighted the history and significance of the Women’s Day and resilience among women.
She also discussed the theme of International Women’s Day 2013, that is, “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women” in course of her speech. She said that the importance of educating the women was neglected in the past because of which they were unaware of their rights. But now girls were more conscious and aware of their rights and responsibilities. She added that economic freedom is the real freedom and women should get education to be independent in real terms.
