Second phase of land distribution among women peasants soon

Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday announced that the government was starting the second phase of the distribution of land among women peasants under the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Programme.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s House held in connection with land grant policy, he said that a total of 43,000 acres was be distributed in the first phase, while at least 1,00,000 acres would be given to landless women peasants.

He said the process would be started later this month and would continue till March 15. He directed the provincial Chief Secretary to convene a meeting of all DCOs to seek details of land distribution from them and present a report to him.

The CM said that the process of distribution of land among landless peasants would be finalised by Minister for Revenue and process would be monitored by a related department.

A total number of 43,044 acres have been distributed among 1266 male and 2930 female peasants. The meeting was told that distributed land would help those growers to enhance their standard of living. The meeting was also informed that 1,442 peasants was given cash grants for upgrading their Khareef crops 2009,while Rs. 29,650,112 was also given to them for development of the land for the Khareef crop. Various peasants were also provided seeds and medicines for the crop.
