SC seeks ITNE report on Wage Award implementation

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Friday sought report from the Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE) about the compliance of the apex courtís decision on 7th Wage Board Award.

A two-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Tariq Parvez, heard a Civil Miscellaneous Application (CMA), filed by the All Pakistan Newspaper Employees Confederation (Apnec).

The court re-issued notices to all the employers, representatives of the employees and APNS as well as ITNE chairman to appear before the court on March 21.

Through the CMA, Apnec prayed for immediate implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s October 2012 decision.

Apnec counsel Akram Sheikh informed the court that no steps had so far been taken to implement the apex courtís verdict for implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award. He said the owners of the newspapers have not complied with the court judgment so far.

During the hearing, the chief justice observed that the review petition against the 7th Wage Board Award case was pending with the apex court, but no any order was passed to stop implementation of the court verdict in the matter.
