Save the environment, or else
By: Hashim Abro
Regrettably, like our past successive rulers, the present rulers, particularly, in Sindh, did not take initiatives which could have proven to be significant to our country’s economic growth and environmental protection. Our economy and ecosystem is on the decline but our politicians and bureaucrats never seem to bother.
The posts of chairperson and one member in Karachi’s environmental tribunal have been vacant for the last six months but no one has as yet been appointed and one member (legal) is on the verge of retirement. The situation more or less is identical in Quetta. I appeal to the rulers and the bureaucracy to change their attitude towards economic development and environmental protection. We need to raise awareness on environmental issues because a healthy and clean environment is very important, particularly at a time when the world is debating global warming.
