SAMC welcomes British journalist’s release

LAHORE: The South Asia Media Commission (SAMC) welcomed the release of a British journalist of Pakistani origin, Asad Qureshi, held captive in Taliban-controlled tribal areas of Pakistan since March.

The British embassy has confirmed his safe arrival in Islamabad where he is being provided with consular assistance.

Qureshi, a documentary film producer, was heading towards North Waziristan to make a film on the Taliban and was accompanied by two former officers of the ISI, Sultan Ameer Tarar, known as Colonel Imam, and Khalid Khwaja. His captors executed Khwaja in April, with the help the Asian Tigers, claiming responsibility for the kidnapping and killing. The whereabouts of Colonel Imam are still unknown.
