Sale of used mobiles banned

HARIPUR: The district administration on Tuesday banned the sale and purchase of used mobile phones without proper documentation for a period of two months, under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Assistant superintendent (ASP) of the police headquarters, Wahid Mehmood, said this was being done because of the increase in mobile phone thefts in Haripur and their likely use in terrorism, including the detonation of IEDs. The police had requested Haripur’s deputy commissioner to impose the ban. Mehmood added used mobile phone sets will no longer be sold without documentation and recording the purchase in registers. He further said mobile phone shop owners will only be able to sell a used phone after writing down the name of the person buying or selling it along with other details such as their Computerised National Identity Card number and a valid contact number.
