Safma calls for press freedom in Nepal

ISLAMABAD, April 20,2005: The South Asian Free Media Association (Safma) has called upon the media community in all countries of South Asia to jointly observe the Press Freedom Day falling on May 3 as a day of solidarity with the media and the journalists under attack in Nepal.

Supporting full press freedom in Nepal, Safma Secretary- General Imtiaz Alam has appealed to all media organizations, working journalists’ organizations, editors’ bodies and Safma national chapters to jointly organize meetings and rallies in support of the demands of Nepalese journalists for a free press, right to know, right to express, release and reinstatement of all journalists and lifting of censorship and all curbs on the media.

The updated initial report of Safma’s fact-finding mission to Nepal will also be released on the Press Freedom Day in all countries of South Asia.
