RSF wants compensation for journalist

PESHAWAR: International media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on Wednesday called on the federal and provincial authorities to provide emergency aid to Hameedullah Khan, a correspondent of a private TV channel, in Swat.
Unidentified men blew up Khan’s house in the Shakar Darra village of Swat, more than a week ago. The residents of Shakar Darra were forced to evacuate the area earlier on December 28 when the army launched an offensive against the Taliban. Khan and his family returned to their village on January 5 to find their house destroyed. A police station and the house of a local Awami National Party (ANP) leader were also destroyed.
“I don’t have a dispute with anyone. I don’t understand who could have done this,” Khan told Reporters Without Border-, Khan’s colleagues said his reporting ha earned him enemies in both camps. Unidentified armed men had torched a shop owned by Khan on July 5, 2008.
