Role of IT in economic growth highlighted

HYDERABAD: Acting Vice Chancellor University of Sindh Professor Dr Parveen Shah has said that information technology plays a vital role in the growth of economy and education all over world.

She stated while inaugurating one-day project exhibition developed by the final year students of the Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT) University of Sindh on Wednesday.

The exhibition was attended by the students and teachers of the IICT and other departments of the University.

Dr Shah appreciating hard work and enthusiasm of students said IICT was contributing by encouraging the students to design and develop novel research projects using various components of IT.

“We have been making serious efforts to improve the use of IT within our university.

We are planning to provide internet connectivity to all boys’ hostels for which the University has allocated around Rs 1.2 million,” Dr Shah said.

She termed students as future stars and said they were keys to raise good name of the institute and University and that they could serve the nation with only abilities in the competitive world.

Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Dr Muhammad Tahir Rajput said “today we are living in the world of media and technology.”

He appreciated projects of the students and said the exhibition had played a great role in exchanging ideas for projection of products design by the students of final year.

He said exhibition of projects was a regular feature of the IICT and added that it was very important event apart from other study component.

IICT Director Dr Asad Shaikh said they had established CISCO academy in IICT for the training of the students.

He said IICT was trying to get accreditation from Pakistan Engineering Council for recognition of degrees of Telecommunication and Electronic offered by the IICT.

In projects exhibition 90 projects, developed by the final year students of Information Technology, Software Engineering, Telecommunication and Electronics students in groups were displayed in the exhibition.

A project on Automatic Railway System developed by a group of four students of Electronics Inamullah Bhutto, Shamsher, Muhammad Azeem and Muhammad Lakho under supervision of Sandar Ali Khowaja.

Other projects are ‘Teachers time management’ developed by Anum Riaz, Sanam Imam, ‘C commerce based integrated store’ developed by Aftab, Soarath and Sumera under supervision of Dr Asad Bhatti.

A group of four students Dileep Kumar, Shaan Mustafa Nizamani, Abdullah Kholkhar and Ghulam Mujtaba Khushik under supervision of Shazia Abasi have developed a project on Implementation of SU Campus Network over IPv6.

A group of three students under supervision of Professor Lubna Mustafa has developed projects on Encyclopedia search information, Online Sindhi learning system and online IT terminology in Sindhi.

A group of four students named Muhammad Rashid, Altamash Shaikh, Arslan Ahmed and Muhammad Haseeb under supervision of Nisar Ahmed Memon and Mudasar Ahmed Memon developed project on “Holy Quran Reader Pen”.

The students also exhibited their research projects under titles Human face detection with support Vector Machines, Database Agricultural Administration System, School Management System, Online event scheduler and activity plan for NGO’s, Automated Electoral system of Pakistan using thumb recognition techniques, E-Judiciary Support System, Sindh Encyclopaedia, online Police FIR verification, Intelligent security camera, online surveys for new product launching, a microcontroller based water control system, voice recognition and controlling on cellular mobile system and Globally Controlled Advance Ambulance System.
