LAHORE: Robin Ghosh, the man behind some of Lollywood’s most popular tunes, was remembered by his contemporaries on his first death anniversary on February 13. The six-time Nigaar award winner was the husband of legendary Pakistani actor, Shabnam.

Of his many achievements, one of the greatest was the songs he composed for Aaina – one of the most successful films ever made in the Pakistan film industry. “Robin Ghosh was my best friend. We spent many years together when he was not as famous, but he got to the top with his hard work. He was a creative man and was enrich with great qualities. This is the reason he was chosen to croon songs for almost every big film that was released in his lifetime,” music composer Ustad Tafu told The Express Tribune.

“We have seen Robin Ghosh when he was at the peak of popularity but he was such a down to earth man. He was supportive of his juniors. Today, when we complain that there is no good music in our films, then I really miss Robin,” said lyric writer Altaf Bajwa.

Having started his music career in the early 1960s, Ghosh belted out several hits for Pakistani films including Chaahat, Dooriyan and Chakori amongst many others. He was popular for lending his vocals for the tracks of yesteryear singers including Ahmed Rushdi, A Nayyer and Akhlaq Ahmed.

“I worked as a tabla player with him for many years and found him to be more talented than anyone else during his time. He was there during the golden period in our industry. He worked a lot and I truly believe that without his films, our industry history wouldn’t be as great,” said tabla player Khadim Hussain.
