ISLAMABAD: Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Tariq Bajwa on Monday said the board had not written off tax liabilities of any media group.

This issue was raised during the press briefing of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar here when a reporter asked him if the government had written off Rs26 billion tax liability of a media group, as there were reports in the market in this regard.

The finance minister asked the reporter to name the media group, but he did not name any specific outlet. The minister however denied any such thing and said he could guarantee under oath that nothing of this sort had happened.

When this reporter asked the FBR chief Monday night if there was any such development, he replied in the negative. “Nothing of this sort is in my knowledge,” he added.“I can tell you with guarantee that neither the executive nor the FBR wrote off tax liabilities of any media group,” he said.

This reporter also contacted the reporter Sanaullah who raised this question during the press briefing of the finance minister and inquired if he possessed any proof in this regard, he replied that he had raised this question on the basis of perception existing in the market and he did not mention any media group in this regard.
