Renowned lyricist Riazur Rehman Sagar laid to rest

LAHORE: Renowned poet Riaz ur Rehman Sagar, the writer of more than 2,000 lyrics of Indo-Pak film songs, was laid to rest on Saturday at the age of 72 after he lost his fight against cancer at the Jinnah Hospital here.

Sagar was known for the melodious songs that he penned down for the subcontinent’s film industries. His funeral prayer was held at commerce college ground where renowned personalities from the film industry and literary circles were present.

He penned more then 2,000 songs including ‘Kabhi To Nazar Milao’, ‘Chief Saab’, ‘Ghoongat’, ‘Inteha’, ‘Mohabattan Sachian’, ‘Samjotha Express’ and ‘Ishq Kuda’.

He versed lyrics for super hit songs like ‘Dupatta Mera Malmal Da’ and ‘Yaad Sajan Di Ayi’ of Hadiqa Kiani and the famous ‘Kabhi to Nazar Milao’ by Asha Bhosle and Adnan Sami Khan. Saghar also authored the album songs of Fariha Pervez’s Vela Yad Kar in 2001.

His most popular film tracks come from the movie ‘Sargam’, which were primarily sung by Adnan Sami Khan and Hadiqa Kiani. Saghar also wrote the lyrics for famous children’s programme ‘Angan Angan Tarey’ on PTV.

Furthermore, being a song writer he was remarkable but he also manifested his lyrical skills in various ways. His poetic columns also appeared in number newspapers of Pakistan including Nawa-e-Waqt and others.

Riaz ur Rehman’s services to Indo-Pak film industries would not be easily forgotten. His death has deprived the music industry of a talented professional.
