Renowned Journalist Sheikh Ali Muhammad Remembered on Death Anniversary
In a tribute to the renowned journalist Sheikh Ali Muhammad, Bazm-e-Rooh Rihan organized a commemorative event as part of its ongoing series of literary sessions. The event, held on his death anniversary, was presided over by distinguished writer Qazi Khadim, with Taj Joyo and Saleem Channa as chief guests.
The session featured notable speakers, including Qazi Munawar, Professor Ashraf Samon, Idrees Jatoi, Ashique Solangi, Juman Ansari, and Darya Khan Pirzado, who shared insights into the life and achievements of Sheikh Ali Muhammad. Cultural highlights of the event included performances by singers Aziz Channa and Shahid Jarwar, who presented ‘Shah ji Waai’ in his honor.
Born on February 15, 1925, in Sheikh Hafiz Mori Mungar village, Sheikh Ali Muhammad received his primary education in his hometown before completing his matriculation at Noor Muhammad High School, Hyderabad. He went on to pursue higher studies, earning an Intermediate degree from City Arts College and later an LLB from Jinnah Law College.
Sheikh Ali Muhammad began his career in the postal department but soon turned to journalism, where he left an enduring legacy. He started as a news editor for Hilal-e-Pakistan, a newspaper owned by Abdul Shakoor Manshi, and later became the editor of Karwan, owned by Haji Najamuddin Sariwal.
In 1965, Sheikh Ali Muhammad was appointed the first editor of Ibrat when it became a daily newspaper. Later, in 1969, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party acquired Hilal-e-Pakistan and appointed him as its editor on March 22, 1969.
By 1972, as Hilal-e-Pakistan relocated to Karachi, Sheikh Ali Muhammad embarked on a new journey to establish his own publication. On March 23, 1974, he launched Daily Aftab.
He passed away on January 21, 1991.
