Removed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority chairman files Intra Court Appeal at Lahore High Court

LAHORE: The removed Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Farooq Awan has filed an intra court appeal (ICA) before Lahore High Court (LHC) against his suspension by a single bench. Applicant took the plea he was appointed as chairman of the Authority after the approval by the Prime Minister.

He said there was nothing illegal in his appointment as all rules and regulations were also followed during the appointment. He said the LHC single bench of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on December 31, 1012 had declared his appointment unlawful by setting aside the notification of his appointment. He requested to set aside the single bench order and issue direction for his reinstatement as PTA chairman. The single bench had set aside the appointment on the applicant on a petition of a local citizen Khawaja Saad Saleem.

He had submitted Farooq Awan was appointed without adopting the legal process, without regard to relevant considerations and without application of an independent mind at the expense of interest of users of telecommunication services and other eligible candidates for the position. He said on mere authorisation of the principle secretary to Prime Minister, Farooq Awan was appointed as Chairman PTA without following the selection procedure laid in the Telecommunication Act and the law and constitution of Pakistan.
