Registration facilities: Nadra’s version

THIS is apropos of the letter ‘Nadra woes’ (May 22) in which Muhammad Azam highlighted the need to open Nadra offices at the union council level in rural areas.

It is pertinent to mention that Nadra has already deployed a threefold strategy to register citizens across Pakistan with special emphasis on far-flung and rural areas. Nadra, from time to time, ensures that the registration process should be effective and efficient and makes necessary measures to cater to the need of citizens.

Nadra is already working with social organisations like NGOs to remove the barricades for registration.

Owing to Nadra’s special arrangement like female staff for women’s registration, doing away with photographs for women in some areas and the decision to open Nadra offices on Saturdays and Sundays have helped boost registration.

It is worth mentioning that the registration ratio in rural areas is greater than the ratio of urban areas.

Nadra has deployed 220 mobile vans to register citizens living in far-flung areas while 40 motorcycle registration units and 137 semi-mobile registration units are deployed to cover far-flung areas and provide registration services at the doorstep of the people.

In addition, there are 367 multi-biometric interactive registration centres. Owing to such registration facilities, to date Nadra has registered 89 per cent of the population, 79.3 million registered citizens, with 74 per cent women and 97 per cent males registered.

Nadra has employed 12,906 hands to register people of Pakistan. However, Nadra welcomes suggestions to improve services and facilities and will provide more facilities at the doorstep of the people in rural areas through efficient resource utilisation and increasing registration facilities.
