ISLAMABAD—Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) has strongly condemned the harassment of its former Vice President Aun Shirazi by the ousted Prime Minister Imran Khan’s chief of staff Shahbaz Gill in the presence of the former premier.

In a statement issued by General Secretary Tariq Ali Virk, RIUJ said that Gill had harassed and abused journalists in the past.

“The hostile attitude towards journalists could not be tolerated under any circumstances,” President Abid Abbasi, Virk, and Finance Secretary Kashan Akmal Gill, and other members stated. They regretted that the top leadership of PTI had failed to take action against Gill.

RIUJ, while demanding an immediate apology, warned that the journalist community would soon formulate a plan of action in this regard.

Afzal Butt, a former President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), took to twitter to inform that journalist Shirazi had asked a question during the press conference of former PM Imran Khan. However, Gill abused and harassed the journalist.

Gill was considered the worst enemy of press freedom during the Imran Khan regime. He used foul language against journalists and critics not supporting his political stance. He also harassed various female journalists, including Asma Shirazi and Gharidah Farooqi.
