Rashid announces 100pc raise in TV artistes payment

ISLAMABAD- Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on April 15, 2003 announced 100 percent increase in the payment of PTV artistes, writers and singers with immediate effect.

He made this announcement while inaugurating the PTV’s General Managers Conference at the PTV Headquarters. The Minister was also briefed on the PTV performance by the Managing Director PTV Akhtar Waqar Azeem.

Secretary Information and Chairman PTV Syed Anwar Mahmood was also present. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed expressed the hope that PTV will make all-out efforts to improve its performance in the sectors of Programme; News and Current Affairs with the aim to meet the challenges of the new world information order.

Diverting the attention of the PTV management towards the upcoming challenges in the information field, the Minister said that a number of new TV channels are in the process to be launched soon. “We can only survive in the field by adoption of hard work, dedication and efficient approach,” he said.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said that steps are being taken to effectively counter the baseless propaganda campaign by the inimical forces and this could be achieved by enhancing the scope and quality of the programmer.

The minister pointed out that PTV should make efforts to cater the needs of Overseas Pakistanis as this sector has been neglected in the past.

Appreciating the News and Current Affair programmes, he said that news bulletins in Pashtu language be immediately started at the PTV World.

The Minister highlighted the need for enhancing rapport with other TV channels in the region saying “PTV should undertake exchange of programmes with other regional TV networks.

Expressing concern over the heavy expenditure in the non-development sector, the minister said that it needs curtailments thus the savings out of this sector could be diverted to the development side.
