‘Rape victim did not appear before inquiry team’
ISLAMABAD, September 01 2005: Police has not been able to contact Sonia Naz, the rape victim of Faisalabad, says a press release issued here on Wednesday August 31.
The investigation team constituted by the IGP Punjab Major Zia-ul-Hassan Khan (Retd), comprising DIG Crime Branch Zafar Ahmed Qureshi & SSP (Investigation) Saad Akhtar Bharwana spent a busy day in Faisalabad in connection with the inquiry.
Sonia Naz residence was visited in Jhang Bazar and found locked with no inmate present. Statements of neighbours were recorded. Delinquent police officers were questioned, and their statements recorded. However, the complainant Sonia Naz did not appear before the team despite repeated requests from different Human Rights Associations. Police said that all necessary protection will be provided to the victim and witnesses.
