Rape case against folk singer

MIANWALI: Police have registered a case against a local folk singer, Sharafat Ali Terikhelvi, on the charge of raping and detaining a 16-year-old girl for three days.

Mehvish, the daughter of Nawab Din and a resident of Kalabagh, told the police that Sharafat used to visit her house and had offered her to marry him, which she accepted.

She said that on June 6, Sharafat asked her to come to Mianwali for wedding shopping. “When I went to Sharafat’s house, he detained me in his house and raped me for three days. Later, my mother rescued me,” Mehvish said. She said a Jirga decided that Sharafat would marry her in a month. “Sharafat accepted the Jirga’s decision but later, he backtracked from his promise,” she added. Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Sharafat alleged that the girl and her mother wanted to extort money from him.
