Rally against govt’s attempt to muzzle press

QUETTA: People belonging to different walks of life took part in a rally taken out in protest against government’s attempt to muzzle the press and its victimization towards the Jang Group of Newspapers.

The rally organised by Committee for Free Press (CFP), was taken out from Quetta Press Club and largely attended by intellectuals, mediamen and hawkers.

They marched through various roads in the city, carrying placards and banners inscribed with slogans favouring freedom of press. They chanted slogans against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Ehtesab Bureau Saifur Rahman and Federal Information Minister Mushahid Hussain.

Later the protesters gathered in front of Quetta Press Club where President Balochistan Union of Journalists (BUJ) Majid Fauz, BUJ Secretary General Manzoor Baloch and Majeed Asghar of daily Jang Quetta addressed the rally. “We will not allow the government to muzzle the voice of press. They strongly condemned the government for stopping of newsprint of the Jang Group of Newspapers. They passed a resolution asking the government to release the Jang’s newsprint and unfreeze its accounts.
