Radio Pakistan’s financial crisis

Apropos of your correspondent’s report (June 10), it is highly distressing that Radio Pakistan is in the grip of such a financial crisis that its Larkana station’s air time has almost been reduced to half.

It is distressing to know that due to a defect developed in its antenna, programmes on FM 101 transmitters can hardly be heard in Larkana due to which it has lost a considerable number of listeners.

It is further disappointing to learn that PBC headquarters have paid no attention to this serious situation despite a number of reminders sent to them by the station managers.

It is unfortunate that the standby power generator could also not be repaired owing to the paucity of funds as a result of which the programmes marking the death anniversary of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had to be aired through the use of a power generator temporarily borrowed from the Hyderabad station.

Artistes, comperes and announcers have not been paid their remunerations since April 2010.
