Quality education for women vital: Air Chief

ISLAMABAD – As many as 31 female students of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Finishing School received their certificates of a 19-week-long training course at a graduation ceremony of Spring Session 2008 held here the other day.

Chief guest of the occasion, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed, Chief of the Air Staff, PAF, congratulated the students of 24th batch of the school on their good performance and awarded certificates.

Among a select group of the audience were parents of the students and faculty members of the school.

Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed while speaking on the occasion emphasized that women play key role in the development of society and no society can afford to neglect sound education of women.

The chief guest said, in our country, women have a vital role to play. They are taking part in every field of life side by side with men and doing jobs tremendously to earn their living, he added.

“One day you will become mothers who have to play vital role in nation building. “They have significant contributions to make towards shaping the destiny of a nation”, he added, saying “I advise you to pay attention to your home first and the personality development programme, to which you have been exposed at the school to you bring about tangible improvements not only in your careers but also in your home environment”.

“Life is not about living only” the Chief of the Air Staff believed. “Life is to contribute to your society, to your family and to your institution. The objective of every institute is not merely to distribute certificates and degrees but the whole idea of education is programming of the minds of the students by inculcating good values,” he observed, adding that hence such institutions are essential additions to nurture the mental and moral faculties of our younger generation”.

Earlier, Director of the school, Nasrin Aurangzeb, presented a report highlighting the main aspects of the training, which is aimed at providing quality training to young girls to make them useful members of the society.

The training, she said, also inculcates in girls universally accepted moral, social and ethical values. The students undergo a physical fitness programme including Yoga, aerobics and swimming, she added.

Some presentations were also made by the students wherein they shared their experiences during the training period and recited poetry and quotations of celebrated poets and writers.

“I can honestly say that this course taught me everything including swimming, banking and entrepreneurship, spiritual enrichment, home management, etiquette and much more”, a participant of the course observed.

The PAF Finishing School was established in July 1996 for girl students. It offers 19 weeks training course, which includes lectures and practical work in communication skills, languages, management, art of self presentation, domestic sciences, regional culture, cuisine, protocol, art, childcare, psychology, spiritual enrichment and field survival. The school, a grooming academy for women, is the first of its kind in Asia, which is a step taken by Pakistan Air Force towards the promotion of education and fight against illiteracy in the country.
