Punjab Police Officers Barred from Sharing Personal Views on Social Media Without Approval in New Directive

Pakistan Press Foundation

On September 13, Punjab police officers were barred from expressing personal, political, or religious views on social media without prior approval from their district or unit heads, according to a directive issued by the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Operations.

The policy, conveyed through a letter titled “Social Media Policy,” mandates strict adherence to these guidelines. Officers cannot post while in uniform unless permitted. Official police activities will be managed only by designated officials, while private use of police resources for social media is prohibited.

The directive holds Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and unit heads personally responsible for enforcing the policy within their jurisdictions. The move aims to maintain the professionalism and integrity of the Punjab police force in their online presence. Meanwhile, the City Traffic Police Rawalpindi has been actively engaging the public via social media, showcasing their performance and public feedback, which includes images of the Punjab Chief Minister.
