Punjab PA may permit TV coverage
LAHORE – Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Sardar Shaukat Mazari on June 2 invited treasury and opposition members to discuss with him the important matter of allowing private TV channels to for coverage or other wise of House proceedings.
He invited MPAs from both sides of the political divide to his chamber after Shafqat Abbasi from the opposition benches on a point of order drew attention towards inadequate coverage of the House proceedings by PTV.
Provincial Minister for Law Muhammad Basharat Raja assured the House of taking up the issue with the federal government. But Deputy Opposition Leader Rana Sanaullah stressed that in the present era of competition, private TV channels should be given permission for coverage of the House proceedings.
Sanaullah said private TV channels were allowed to cover proceedings of assemblies in other provinces –there was no justification for not allowing the same in the Punjab.
