Punjab govt stops inviting PTV for coverage

LAHORE: The Punjab government is learnt to have decided not to invite the Pakistan Television for coverage of its activities as a protest against the cold shoulder given by the PTV during last one week as no coverage has been given to Punjab in its various news bulletins, including Khabarnama.

Official sources, while confirming the decision said that the step had been taken in view of the PTV’s continuous neglect to cover the Punjab government’s various development and welfare-oriented programmes in different sectors.

They lamented that the PTV did not give adequate projection to many development-oriented steps taken by the provincial government, including provision of houses to the government employees on their retirement, providing free-of-charge education up to Matric level, allotting land to the landless peasants and granting Rs 200 monthly stipend to the regular girl students in schools etc.it may be pointed out that many of these welfare-oriented steps hadcompletely been ignored in PTV programmes.

When contacted, a high ranking government official told this scribe that the step of stopping PTV from the coverage had not been taken unilaterally, but had been taken as a last resort after continuous indifference of the PTV despite vehement protests and after bringing the matter to the notice of higher PTV authorities.
