The Punjab government has reversed its amendment to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, reinstating the publication of newspaper tender notices. Punjab Information Minister Azma Zahid Bokhari announced this decision during a meeting with the executive committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS).

According to Bokhari, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the APNS’ request to restore newspaper tender advertisements. She further highlighted that the Punjab government has cleared all outstanding payments to the print media from the tenure of the current Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. An amount of Rs 1.18 billion has been disbursed through the Directorate General Public Relations (DGPR), Punjab.

The APNS executive committee, led by President Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani and Secretary General Sarmad Ali, expressed their gratitude to the chief minister, acknowledging that the decision would provide significant relief to the struggling newspaper industry during the current economic challenges. The committee also commended Bokhari and her team for their efforts in addressing the concerns of the media industry.

During the meeting, APNS representatives raised concerns about the proposed payment mechanism for government advertisements. Bokhari assured them that the Punjab government would review the mechanism to ensure fairness and efficiency. She also informed the committee that the government is working on a comprehensive, long-term advertising policy in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
