Punjab government relief goods reach flooded Nowshera

NOWSHERA/RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government’s first convoy of 25 trucks carrying relief goods for the hundreds of people affected in the recent floods reached flood-hit Nowshera on Thursday.

After arrival at the city, PML-N leaders including MNA Hanif Abbasi and Marvi Memon handed over the relief goods to KPK Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain and others during a ceremony.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Khan Hoti has expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif for sending relief goods for the flood affectees of district Nowshera. The recent rains played havoc in different parts of Nowshera where the district administration declared emergency and launched immediate rescue operation.

The floodwater damaged hundreds of houses and swept away household items and animals. The chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has appreciated the spirit of the brotherhood of chief minister Punjab and said that the people of the province look this spirit will honour.

The relief goods included essential commodities including flour, sugar, pulses, cooking oil, tents, blankets, tea, soaps, match boxes, candles, rusks, rice, dates and many other items for the displaced people of the flood-hit areas.

Earlier, the convoy of trucks was sent during a ceremony held at the Rawalpindi Commissioner Office in Rawalpindi. The ceremony was also attended by Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal, PML-N Senator Begum Najma Hameed, MNAs Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Malik Shakeel Ahmed Awan and Tahira Aurangzeb, leader Marvi Memon and District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar.

Addressing the ceremony, Hanif Abbasi said that Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif has taken initiative as a first instance in the whole country to send 25 trucks of relief goods for Nowshehra flood affectees to give a message of brotherhood sentiments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) people from the people and Punjab government that he would not be left alone in this difficult time.

These relief goods would be delivered to the KPK government so that it could be reached to the flood affectees properly, Abbasi added. He said that following the instruction of CM Punjab they would also visit KPK to hand over the trucks to KPK government.

He said that N League KPK workers would also take part in the distribution of relief goods among the flood victims. PML-N leader Marvi Memon, speaking on the occasion, said that it was the manifesto of her party to make every effort for the affectees of any disaster belonging to other provinces also including KPK.

Senator Begum Najma Hameed, MNA Malik Shakil Awan and MNA Tahira Aurengzeb said that elected representatives and party workers of Rawalpindi would also call out to help their brothers of KPK and collect more relief goods for them with the cooperation of philanthropists so that these could be dispatched to Nowshehra as early as possible, they added.
