Punjab CM visits Ramazan Bazaars: Women can now purchase two bags of sugar

RAWALPINDI: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif paid surprise visits to Ramazan bazaars in the city on Sunday to review the availability of essential food commodities.

Accompanied by MNA Hanif Abbasi, MPA Raja Mohammad Hanif, Commissioner Zahid Saeed and District Coordination Officer Imdadullah Bosal, Mr Sharif went around Ramazan bazaars at Committee Chowk and Nawaz Sharif Park, and inquired about availability of wheat flour and sugar on subsidised rates.

The Punjab chief minister saw people in the queue waiting for their turn to get wheat flour and sugar. On the demand of women consumers, he issued instructions to sell two packs of sugar to each female.

Mr Sharif also distributed Eidi among widows and physically-challenged women.Addressing the people, he said the government had earmarked a sum of Rs8 billion for the provision of Sasta Atta, adding that he was ready to spend even Rs80 billion to mitigate the sufferings of the people.

The chief minister said: “People cannot be left at the mercy of circumstances and Allah Almighty be praised for giving the opportunity to the present government to facilitate the masses in Sehri and Aftar.

He said service to the people was his mission and he was ready to make any sacrifice for this purpose.

Mr Sharif stated that provision of relief to the poor would continue till Eidul Fitr, after which a special campaign would be launched against hoarding, profiteering, adulteration short-weighing, non-display of price lists and unhygienic conditions.

The Punjab chief minister also visited Liaquat Bagh to inspect the Ramazan Dastarkhawan and praised Rawalpindi’s commissioner and DCO for the arrangements.
