PTV’s news channel plea shelved
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television’s project of launching an independent news channel which could transmit news round the clock has been abandoned, informed sources told PPI. The channel was scheduled to be on air from November 1.
The project was expected to be financed from other than the budget of Pakistan Television or the Ministry of Information and Media Development.
Advertisements for the recruitment of senior staffers were issued by the government, whose last date was September 30 and the process of interviews and short listing was on.
As the salary package offered by the project was many times higher than the PTV salary scale, many senior members of the PTV had applied for the jobs on three years contract and three of them were selected on the condition that they would resign from PTV service. The three members of the staff of PTV News subsequently resigned in the beginning of the month.
Now with the abandoning of the project those who were already working have been offered one month service pay as per their terms of contract and are being relieved.
