‘PTV promoting liberal, democratic image’

ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Farooq H. Naek has said Pakistan Television (PTV) has played an important role in promoting liberal democratic image of the country across the world.

He was addressing the function held on Tuesday night to mark the 46th anniversary of the foundation of PTV.

He said the present PPP government believed in media freedom and hoped that media would play an active role in
strengthening democratic institutions and values in the country.

He appreciated PTV Managing Director Yousuf Baig Mirza for putting the PTV back on path to old glory.

Speaking on the occasion, Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira said: “The present democratic regime believes in freedom of expression and the media today enjoys unprecedented freedom.”

He said PTV was one of the most important national institutions, which had been promoting national culture and country’s
image in a positive manner since its inception.

He said PTV, during the last over four decades, had seen many ups and downs but it had kept its traditions alive. He also congratulated its workers on its 46 anniversary.

Information Secretary Mansoor Suhail said PTV was promoting Pakistani culture all over the world.

At present over 60 private TV channels and 130 radio channels were operating in the country. Despite all this competition,
PTV was playing a very important role, he added.
