PTV not giving fair coverage to NWFP

PESHAWAR – NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has criticized the state-run Pakistan Television for not giving fair coverage to the NWFP government.

“If things do not improve, we will boycott the official electronic media,” Mr. Durrani told Michael A Spangler, the principal officer of the US consulate in Peshawar, on August 30.

“Our good work is not being highlighted in the national and international media,” Mr. Durrani said. The chief minister briefed the US diplomat about the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal government’s steps to enforce the Islamic system in the NWFP and the salient features of the proposed Hasba Bill. Provincial Information Minister Asif Iqbal Daudzai hinted a few months ago that the NWFP government would launch a TV channel to propagate the MMA policies, which civil society organizations dub as “Talibanization.”
