PTV drama producer, poet Muhammad Azeem dies

Well known PTV drama / documentary producer, poet, columnist and left leaning writer Muhammad Azeem died of heart failure at the age of 70 years here on Monday. He left behind a widow, two sons and two daughters. His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Masjid-e-Safari Villas, Baharia Town at 10 am today.

Muhammad Azeem did MA English from Islamia College Civil Lines Lahore and worked with weekly Nudrat, daily Javedan, daily Musawat and daily Jamhoor as sub-editor and staff reporter before he joined Pakistan Television in 1975 as producer programmes. During his 30 years service in Pakistan, Azeem produced many popular dramas, serials, general programmes and documentaries including Darya, Band Gali, Neelay Haath, Fard-e-Jurram, Aasman, Parrao, Dewaar-e-Zameen, Wafa, Masafat, Wafa Ke Paikar, Hairat Kada, Naiy Rastay, Adhoray Rastay.

Azeem also produced many documentaries and programmes in the context of Independence movement of Jammu and Kashmir. Muhammad Azeem was declared best PTV producer in 10 years. He also got PTV Cash Award, Saghir Siddiqui Award, Graduate Award, Shakir Amn Society Award, World Cup Show Award and Kashmir Award. Former Managing Director Akhtar Waqar Azeem has condoled death of Muhammad Azeem and said he was a very talented, creative and innovative programme producer/director. His dramas and documentaries were very popular among the viewers.
