PTV award giving ceremony to be held after 10 years

ISLAMABAD: PTV has decided to honour madam Noor Jehan and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan by bestowing a life time achievement award to them at the PTV award ceremony to be held on February 6th.

This was said by MD PTV Mirza Yosuf Baig, during a brief Press conference, on Tuesday.

Commenting on the possibility of Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman getting a chance to present his side of the story on PTV, the MD said “there was no such precedent” and the possibilities of him appearing on the PTV screen were slim.

The arrangements for the awards ceremony he disclosed, have been completed. This ceremony is being held after 10 years. Ceremonies could not be held in the past due to the bankrupt status of PTV.

The public, the MD said, has been given the task to select the winners for the awards. 65,000 responses daily are being registered by the PTV computers he said. Eighty eight per cent of the people in Pakistan the MD said, view PTV.

The sports channel he said, would commence within a few weeks time before the world cup. PTV Yosuf Baig said, has achieved its revenue target. More than fifty per cent of the revenue for the fiscal year 1998-99 he said, has been achieved. The revenue target he said, was set at 136 crore rupees. Due to heavy expenditure, PTV will only be making a profit of 8-10 rupees, he added PTV according to the MD would be making a profit of one crore rupees by staging this award show at the Liaquat Gymnasium.

The MD has requested all those, attending the award ceremony to come on time. The doors he said, would be closed at 8:30 pm, and the people should get seated by 9 pm and the show would commence on time at 9:30 pm immediately after the Khabarnama.

A stage of 150 feet in length and 6 feet in width has been erected for the occasion. Photographers the MD said, would not be allowed to get near the stage for technical reasons.

Commenting on the monopoly of a particular PTV center on staging such shows the MD said, we care about quality and excellence on the stage and do not believe in regionalism.
