The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has decided to approach Islamabad High Court (IHC) for the live-telecast of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s international telethon for flood victims, scheduled to be held on Monday night (today).

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) last week had imposed a ban on broadcasting live speeches of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels over his controversial remarks against police officials and a woman judge.

The sources said on Sunday that PTI will file an application in the IHC on Monday (today) to seek directives for live telecast of his telethon to raise funds for flood victims.

Imran will hold an international telethon on Monday night from 9.30 to 12pm to help the flood victims. The chief ministers of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will also join him.

In a video message shared on PTI’s official Twitter handle, Imran appealed to the people including overseas Pakistanis to participate in the telethon on Monday and donate whatever they can.

He added that donations will be managed by his former aide on social protection, Sania Nishtar and will be distributed across all flood-affected areas of the country.

Historic monsoon rains and flooding have affected more than 30 million people over the last few weeks across the country. The destruction of infrastructure and breakdown in communication links adds to the difficulties faced by the authorities in rescue and relief efforts in the region.

The government has called upon the international community to help as it struggles to cope with the aftermath of torrential rains that have triggered massive floods, killing nearly 1,000 people.

On Friday during his visit to the flood-hit areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Imran announced the construction of 10 more dams in the province to avoid the recurrence of the devastation caused by the ongoing super deluge in the province.

Imran visited Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts and interacted with the flood victims at a relief camp set up at the Ratta Kulachi Sports Complex. Accompanied by K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, the former PM reviewed the relief and rehabilitation activities in the affected areas.
