PTCL Says Additional Bandwidth acquired to deal with slow internet speeds; no timeframe for resolution provided: report
Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on January 9 said that additional bandwidth had been acquired to deal with slow internet speeds in Pakistan. PTCL spokesperson Aamir Pasha confirmed that they had “added additional bandwidth which has majorly resolved [the] internet slowness issue.” He added: “We expect complete resolution over the next few days. PTA and PTCL are working diligently to ensure the earliest possible resolution.”
As per Dawn.com, Pasha said the bandwidth shortfall had been addressed. However, the report noted that PTCL technical personnel said that such problems take two to three months to resolve, on which Pasha did not comment.
The report stated that PTCL had said there was no exact time frame for the resolution.
A fault in the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) submarine cable, reported near Qatar on January 3, triggered widespread slowdowns, particularly affecting platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
PTCL teams immediately began working to mitigate the issue, which had slowed down network speeds nationwide. IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja later revealed that 80 percent of the bandwidth shortfall had been recovered by rerouting traffic to alternative cables, with an additional 200 gigabytes per second expected to be rerouted soon.
