PTCL mobile phone service from October

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) will start mobile phone service from October this year, Irfan Ali Khan, Director General PTCL, informed the members of the standing committee on communication of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry during a meeting here on Tuesday.

He said that PTCL was going to computerize its fault Management System (FMS) which, he added, was manual in most of the exchanges.

Until now, he said, 11 exchanges had been linked with the Computerized Fault Management System (CFMS) namely Marston Road, Clifton-1, SITE, Misri Shah, Nazimabad, Azizabad, Pak Capital, Defence, Lyari and Garden.

He briefed the members about the benefits of CFMS that whenever a complaint is received on 18 (in the area of CFMS) it is feeded in the computer immediately. The DE, SDO and supervisor of that exchange on such complaint and they have to prepare a daily report on the complaints received and disposed of.

He also said that the PTCL offered CLI (call line identification) facility to the selective exchanges. The service would be provided within 48 hours. He said that the PTCL had offered helpline services to the CLI customers of PTCL wherein the DE of the respective exchange had to comply with the complaints of the customer within 48 hours.

Earlier, Zakaria Usman, Chairman of the FPCCI committee on communication, in his welcome address highlighted the problem faced by the private sector in respect of-PTCL services.
