PTA receives complaints against cable TV operators

ISLAMABAD- Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has received numerous complaints against certain cable TV operators, who are relaying obscene and vulgar programmes in violation of rules and regulations.

The Chairman, PTA Maj. Gen. Shahzada Alam Malik, while presiding over a meeting of the authority has taken a serious view of the breach of code of ethics and infringement of the rules and regulations of the authority by such cable TV operators.

In order to check this tendency, the chairman has called upon cable TV operators, indulging in such malpractices to abide by the code of ethics and the PTA’s rules keeping in view negative effects of such programmes on religious and socio cultural norms of the society.

The chairman had advised cable TV operators to refrain from relaying vulgar, indecent and obscene programmes, having degenerating effects on the society as a whole and especially on youth.

The authority will monitor and evaluate the performance of cable TV operators and take strict action against those involved in relaying such programmes on their networks. It may be mentioned here that the PTA has already carried out several raids and surprise checks and cancelled licenses of defaulters.
