PTA issues tariff awareness guide
KARACHI: As part of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) continued efforts for consumer protection, it has issued a tariff awareness guide for telecom consumers.
PTA understands that continuously increasing multiplicity and complexity of tariff packages and promotions, especially for prepaid cellular mobile services, has necessitated the need for increased consumer awareness.
In this regard, a guide has been issued to provide telecom consumers essential information for making well-informed decisions regarding choice of tariff packages, and conveying ways of seeking remedy, should they feel that the operator has not fulfilled their responsibility.
The guide explains various applicable service charges and tax rates and advises consumers to take these charges into account while calculating out of pocket expenses on telecom services. It also informs consumers about PTA’s efforts to ensure that they are charged by telecom operators according to the advertised tariffs. Furthermore, it advises consumers to regularly visit the website of their respective service provider, as well as PTA, to remain updated regarding current tariff issues.
The tariff awareness guide would promote transparency in the telecom sector tariffs and also help telecom consumers make better decisions with regard to choice of operators and tariff packages.
