PTA Introduces Mobile-Based VPN Registration

Pakistan Press Foundation

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that those who do not have static IP addresses can register Virtual Private Network (VPN) through mobile numbers, a move aimed at facilitating freelancers and strengthening the IT sector.

In a statement released on December 7, PTA reported that over 31,000 VPNs have already been registered under its updated system. The authority urged users to complete their registration through its official website. “The step is aimed to further simplify the VPN registration process for facilitation of the IT industry,” the statement read.

The PTA also urged users to register their VPNs through the PTA website.

The registration deadline was initially set for November 30. The PTA Chairman, Major General (retired) Hafeezur Rehman, confirmed on November 30 that the government has approved extending the deadline for registering Virtual Private Networks (VPNs). However, no new registration deadline has been announced.

The registration process requires users to submit an online application with details such as a computerized national identity card (CNIC), company registration, and taxpayer information. Freelancers must provide supporting documentation, including project or company association verification letters or emails. Applicants must also submit an IP address for VPN connectivity, with static IPs available through Internet Service Providers.
