Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced blocking thousands of mobile numbers and international mobile equipment identities (IMEIs) linked to fraudulent activities. According to PTA officials, the past year has seen a significant crackdown on mobile scams, with a total of 5,294 mobile numbers now disabled.

The authority did not stop at just mobile numbers; it also took action against 4,507 IMEIs and 113 computer national identity cards (CNICs) associated with various scams, showcasing their comprehensive approach to curbing telecom fraud.

This aggressive action comes in the wake of 27,351 complaints regarding stolen mobile phones reported to the PTA over the last year, highlighting a rampant issue in mobile security. Alongside addressing these complaints, the PTA has also processed 1,818 requests to unblock devices.

In a related development, the PTA has resumed the issuance of class licenses for data services across Pakistan. A recent statement clarified that VPN service providers must now obtain a class license to operate.
