SUKKUR: A large number of journalists from Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Ghotki, and Nosheroferoz gathered in front of the DIG Office Sukkur on Tuesday to demand the immediate arrest of the killers of senior journalist Jan Muhammad Mahar.

The protest call given by Sindhi Television Network was supported by the Sukkur Union of Journalists, Pakistan Union of Journalists (PFUJ), in collaboration with the Sukkur Press Club.

The protestors described the fatal attack on Mahar as a failure of Sukkur police and vowed to continue the protest until the arrest of his killers.

Journalists and other media persons took out a rally from the Sukkur Press Club and assembled at the DIG office to hold a demonstration. Speaking to the participants, PFUJ Finance Secretary Lala Asad Pathan strongly condemned Mahar’s murder. It urged the interim chief minister and IG Sindh to ensure the arrest of the killers to end the unrest prevailing in the entire journalist community in the province.

When he left his office, Mahar was shot dead in an armed attack by unidentified assailants in the Sukkur district late August 13.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the media fraternity of the country.
